Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon - Welcome!
Founded in 1988, the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon (YSSO) provides high-level training and performance opportunities to aspiring young brass, string, percussion and woodwind musicians from throughout the region and presents inspiring performances of standard literature, masterworks, concerti, commissioned music, chamber music, and arrangements. The 2024-2025 season is the organization's 37th season of performances.
Concert Series performances in the Rogue Valley's top professional venues feature music by Mussorgsky, Holst, Copland, Marquez, Villa-Lobos, Beethoven, Beach, Higdon, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Brahms,
Mozart, Hovhaness, Bernstein, Hummel, and many others.
Last season the organization presented the Youth Orchestra and Youth Symphony and an amazing array of repertoire for symphony orchestra and chamber music ensemble. In addition, the Youth Symphony premiered Eclipse: Ex tenebris lux, "From Darkness Comes Light," by Ethan Gans-Morse on the Winter Concert Series. The piece was commissioned by the Rogue Valley Symphony as part of its Composers in the Classroom program. The work was created in collaboration with the musicians of the Youth Symphony.
The Youth Symphony also premiered The Emerald Moon, a new work by composer Mark Eliot Jacobs commissioned by the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon.
