2026-2027 Concert Season Auditions

In-person auditions for the 2026-2027 Concert Season were held on May 29-31 (strings), June 1 (woodwinds),
and June 3 (brass & percussion). flute section

If you are new to the Rogue Valley or if you had a conflict and could not audition in-person, you may submit a digital audition. Please save your video or audio file(s) to Google Drive and send a link to the Executive Director (info@ysso.org) by or before September 11.

The audition submission includes the following components:

  • required music excerpt(s);
  • required scale (or one of the options noted for your instrument); and
  • 5-minute (maximum) * solo/piece selected by the musician.

* PLEASE NOTE: Your solo can be a concerto, sonata, etc., or audition excerpts for All-State and/or the Western International Band Clinic, or a piece of music you've learned in your school orchestra or band.

Keep in mind the music excerpts and scales for the Youth Symphony are not the same as the music excerpts and scales for the Youth Orchestra. Be sure you are preparing the correct excerpt(s) and scale(s).

5-Minute Solo Piece

In addition to the required music excerpt(s) and scale, musicians are asked to prepare a 5-minute solo, selection, or excerpt of a work.

The Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon has prepared lists of recommended works or movements for violin, viola or cello for Youth Orchestra and for Youth Symphony musicians. Keep in mind that selection of a suggested work or movement, however, will not guarantee selection for or placement in Youth Orchestra or Youth Symphony.
