Welcome to the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon!
Founded in 1988, the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon (YSSO) provides high-level training and performance opportunities
to accomplished and aspiring young musicians from throughout the region and presents inspiring performances of standard literature, masterworks, concerti, commissioned music, chamber music, and arrangements for preparatory orchestra and string ensemble.
Concert Series performances presented in the Rogue Valley's professional venues include an dazzling array of works by Beethoven, Copland, Barber, Higdon, Jacobs, Tchaikovsky, Khachaturian, Brahms, Mahler, Verdi, Donizetti, Holst and many others. The 2014-2015 Concert Season opened with performances of Beethoven's Egmont Overture and Symphony No. 1 in C Major on November 15 and November 16. Chamber Music Series performances took place on December 13 & 14, 2014. String quartets, a horn ensemble and mixed group played chamber music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Mozart and others.
The featured work on the Winter Concert Series will be Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major played by 2014 Concerto Competition winner Sarah Klein. The Spring Concert Series will include the premiere of a new work by Mark Eliot Jacobs. The work is the second in a series of suites commissioned by the YSSO organization highlighting the history and heritage of the Rogue Valley.
